i had heard a lot about vaishali so thought of giving it a shot....even though i went on a moday afternoon i had to wait for a good 15 miutes before i could get a place.
ok so first things first their garden cafe is beautiful and just loved their seating arrangement.
second the food is scrumptious....i ordered a mysore masala dosa while my friend ordered an onion uttapam...both awesome and as said before the sambhar was out of this world.
third the sweet lassi.never had such a lassi before.
fourth and the most important point it is very cheap....i had a very filling meal in 70 bucks !!
how i wish vaishali was in bombay....

This is not just a restaurant.. Its an institution... Its in the very blood of many Puneites who swear by it.. You will find families who have been taking their Sunday breakfast here for a long time, morning walk groups who have been meeting here regularly for years, students who can't live without it, and people who have come back to Pune(for no matter how short a time span) making it a point to visit Vaishali before leaving again... This is the adda of FC roadies and others...
Their sambhar is to die for, and so is the SPDP.. expect a wait time, especially on weekend mornings...

I'm learning French, and as an exercise the teacher asked us to form groups of two where one guy is a tourist and the other is a local. The tourist asks the local for a good restaurant on FC Rd & the directions, of course in French. And guess what, 80% of the groups (mostly college going students) suggested Vaishali.
Jokes aside, this place is definitely dirty.

Vaishali is quite a popular place amongst the students. It is just coz they offer decent south-indian food at cheap prices within close vicinity of some colleges. But if you want put your health and hygiene at stake, go to this restaurant.
BUT the place is very dirty. When the waiter cleans the table with the mop, it leaves a terrible bad stink (not to mention the sticky tabletop it leaves). It seems that they never wash the mops in the entire day. Even the entire restaurant gives a kind of a foul smell.
When they get your order the plates (with dosas) are either stacked on top of each other or almost overlapping (and i dont where they must have put those plates earlier). When i ordered coffee, the cup was dripping wet. The sugar was damp and looked very uninviting.
I think there are many better places serving same food at the same prices but much cleaner.
