Yum, cakes!

Kayani Bakery is an institution and most people visiting Pune often ask to be taken to the place to take back something with them. The best offerings are the cakes, wine biscuits and also the shrewsbury biscuits. If you are fond of good bread, you could pick up a fresh loaf here. Amazing.

All the way to Mumbai

My aunt lives in Pune and when she comes to Bombay she brings back a packet of Kayani's cake for all of us here. The cakes are very simple, so is the packaging, so is the bakery. Its a very ordinary looking Parsi bakery and has been packed with people whenever I've been there. Well, their cakes come with no frills attached but their taste and freshness is amazing. My favourites are the chocolate walnut cake and the coffee cookies. I'm not particularly fond of them but their Shrewsbury biscuits are known to be out this world.

Only trouble is, they get sold out minutes after the fresh stock comes to the counters.

I guess most Puneites know when the the fresh stock gets laid out and thats why around that time the place is more crowded than a Virar Fast Mumbai local train.
