Excellent

Forget a table, sit at the sushi bar

Went to San Qi on Friday night to satisfy a craving for sushi. I had heard mixed reviews but wanted to try it out for myself. We ended up sitting at the sushi bar, the best decision we could have made.

Chef Kato talked to us about what we liked and created a custom sashimi/sushi platter for us, and then answered all the questions we had about setting up the restaurant and about getting sushi in Bombay. His rolls were fantastic, first cucumber/avocado then a custom crunchy spicy tuna with kappa. He seemed completely willing to put whatever we wanted together and offered suggestions when we said strange combinations. He even shared a new creation of his, on the house, flash fried ostrich sushi with citrus. Fantasic.

The order of edemame was large and tasty.

Throughout the meal the service was excellent, attentive but not annoying. We were obviously there past closing but they didn't attempt to kick us out and let us take our time chating and drinking.

The Rs damage was more Tetsuma than Wasabi, just over 4000 for 2 ppl, not including the wine. Ate the sashimi/sushi platter, 2 orders of maki, miso soup and edamame. Its not cheap but it was less than I expected for the four seasons.

All in all I recommend the sushi bar San Qi. The food is authentic and fresh. I am a sushi purist and recommend you focus on the traditional items (and not the baba ganoush sushi??) but they have enough variety on the sushi menu to please even the picky vegetarian.

I'll definitely be back.
